Alice Abrams was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She earned a B.A. in Drama at Tufts University and a M.A. in Theatre Education  at New York University. She taught creative dramatics to elementary school children for 6 years. She was introduced to clay in a weekly ceramics class at a local art center in 1970. The hobby grew into a passion  which she has been pursuing since that time. Mostly self taught, she still continues to study ceramics. She has been a member of the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society, Lexington, MA since 1974, and  participant in the Harvard Ceramics Program since 1989.

She is currently a resident artist at the Harvard Ceramics Program. She lives in Lexington, MA with her husband, Walter, and their cat, Mr. Finley and dog, Omar. Her family and home have been significant factors in her growth as an artist. Her creative visions draw upon her childhood memories, her experience as a mother of two children, a grandmother of four, and her background as a teacher of young people. She respects the of vitality of play as a crucial part of artistic development and strives for that spirit of expression in her work.

She co-created the State of Clay Exhibition in 1996 at LACS. Since its inception she has curated all 8 of its shows in Lexington as well as 2 special State of Clay Exhibits in Brockton, MA at the Fuller Craft Museum.
